CTA's Institute for Teaching grant (IFT) has given our union a unique opportunity to reach out to parents and the community in new and innovative ways. ITA has been awarded the IFT grant for three consecutive years (2012, 2013, 2014) and it's one of our most cherished programs. Teachers at both sites volunteer countless hours every month ensuring each workshop is organized, planned, and most of all FUN! Parents, students, and teachers are joining together, hand in hand, building wonderful partnerships...
Parent University, sponsored by the Inglewood Teachers' Association, in conjunction with CTA and NEA, is a program that connects parents and teachers in Inglewood schools. The goals of this program are: to work with parents on ways to participate in their children's education and to provide parents with information on homework, instructional requirements, Common Core State Standards, parenting tips, school structure, district policies, and many other educational issues.
The Inglewood Teachers Association is continuously striving towards increasing parental involvement, as well as building a strong connection with parents because in the end that's what gets results. A partnership between parents and teachers is what increases achievement and helps to close the achievement gap. Inglewood Teachers Association's Parent University is a step forward in the right direction.
Workshops are held once a month at both sites. Childcare, translation, and dinner/refreshments are provided.
Please contact ITA if you are interested in learning more about this program.
